How do you ignite a nation’s imagination with the adrenaline rush of a roller coaster, when few have ever even set foot in a theme park? To answer that question, Journey created a thrilling film to showcase the upcoming Six Flags theme park within Qiddiya City, Saudi Arabia’s ambitious new entertainment city.
We knew that traditional filmmaking wouldn’t capture the sense of adventure or the family-friendly appeal of the new park. Regular architectural renderings or aerial views would leave fundamental questions unanswered: What does riding the tallest, fastest, longest rollercoaster in a theme park feel like? What activities are there for me to do? Will I fit in? In response, we crafted a narrative of weightlessness, wonder, fun, and thrill.
We took viewers on a journey through six themed worlds. Strategic digital elements, from carefully mapped transitions to way-finders and fourth-wall breaking, decoded the very concept of “thrill” for viewers. Every frame was meticulously art-directed to capture the authentic wonder of experiencing a theme park for the first time.
Our team had to pull off a technical high-wire act to bring the park to life, blending old-school filmmaking chops with cutting-edge VFX. Shooting on location in Spain and Saudi Arabia, our team crafted scenes using custom rigs and real roller coasters, transforming an unbuilt city into a living, breathing experience. Innovative visual effects helped us turn the raw footage into an immersive, adventure-packed invitation to the viewer.
By weaving authentic human moments with hyper-realistic digital storytelling, we created narratives that resonated across a wide range of ages and cultural backgrounds. The result? Showcasing a world-first park, while bridging the gap between curiosity and adventure, inviting an entire region to rewrite its definition of thrill.
