When you think of Atlanta, what springs to mind? Coca-Cola, André 3000, giant aquariums? How about the historic home of America’s first airline? We’re talking, of course, about Delta.

To celebrate the American icon’s centenary, Journey, in collaboration with Imagine, was enlisted to transform the Delta Flight Museum into a multidimensional home for the Delta brand and community.

This would be a fresh take on Delta’s epic story, charting 100 years of aviation heritage for casual nostalgia seekers and Delta buffs alike.

An inspiring story and a space to match

The museum is housed in two historic 1940s aircraft hangars at Delta’s corporate headquarters. Journey, along with our collaborators, was tasked with re-imagining the museum to coincide with Delta Air Lines celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2025.

To modernize the space, we developed immersive interventions to transform the Delta Flight Museum into a living showcase of Delta’s rich history, and a celebration of its status as a leading global airline.

One of the most potent ways to engage visitors is by capturing the true magic at the heart of Delta: globe-trotting travel.

In the central hangar, adjacent to the iconic Boeing 767 ‘The Spirit of Delta’, we designed a multifunctional XR travel experience.

Visitors step onto the LED-enveloped stage, select three destinations from a digital kiosk, and embark on a ‘flight’ to iconic cities: Seattle, Lima, Los Angeles, Seoul, Amsterdam, Tokyo, New York, London, and Paris.

It’s a shareable moment as you walk through historic Japan during cherry blossom season or admire the view from the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles; the stage snaps a photo you can print in the museum store. Try it, and resist the urge to book a real flight the next day…

Beyond visitor engagement, the stage serves Delta as a customizable stage for Delta presentations, VIP events, galas, and parties.

A Century of Flight

The Delta Centennial Timeline redefines historical storytelling through interactivity.

This massive digital mural blends printed graphics with projection-mapped animations, allowing visitors to engage with key moments in Delta’s 100-year history.

From the inception of Delta, in its aerial crop dusting days during the 1920s, to the evolution of its aircraft liveries and the introduction of in-flight entertainment, each milestone is brought to life with motion, sound, and rich visual storytelling.

The timeline is an educational tool designed to foster a deeper connection between museumgoers, Delta employees, pilots, and flight attendants. In this way, Delta’s workforce, fans, and passengers can all learn to appreciate the company’s legacy of innovation and service.

With these interventions, the Delta Flight Museum preserves and celebrates the brand’s illustrious history while making it relevant and engaging for a new generation of visitors.

But more than that, with this powerful blend of immersive environments and multi-use functionality, the museum becomes a real ‘home’ for Delta, a space designed to engage, educate, and inspire.
