Imagine watching a live DJ set and all of a sudden, the venue doubles in size and there are three times more lights on the stage. That’s what Dimension, a Journey studio, does at HERE at Outernet London, a live experience delivered for DJ duo Röyksopp and Floating Points.
“Our partnership with HERE at Outernet gives us the great opportunity to work with lighting designers to push the creative possibilities of virtual lighting as a seamless extension of an existing lighting package,” commented Mark Bustard, executive producer, Dimension, a Journey studio

For lighting designers, the Dimension Live system not only increases the number of lighting fixtures available but also opens up a wide range of opportunities to add 3D assets, from photorealistic to abstract scenes. These can be VJ’d live from the lighting desk, just as the physical lights already in place, so it’s very quick for designers to pick up and work with.

This is all possible through Dimension, a Journey studio’s creation of a digital twin of the venue in Unreal Engine, adding an accurate, photo-realistic extension that’s displayed in real time on the stage’s LED screen. This extends the real-world lighting scheme into the virtual extension, blurring the boundaries of real and digital space.

For HERE at Outernet, we created an accurate digital twin, including rigging and truss, to which we added digital versions of the lighting fixtures. These included the venue’s wall-mounted LED striplights, which push out from the stage into the venue. The quality of the digital twin and the real-time rendering make it incredibly difficult to distinguish between what’s real and what’s digital.
No other studio is offering anything like this virtual lighting system. Thanks to the team’s expertise in real-time tools and virtual production techniques, we’re is bringing something very new and very unique to the world of live entertainment.
The work the team has done is a really impressive showcase of how real-time workflows and virtual effects and environments can take the live entertainment experience to the next level,’ commented Simon Windsor, Co-Founder & Managing Director of Dimension, a Journey studio
