London Museum has announced Londinium: the making of a Roman city, a new experience created with Journey, opening in the museum’s rediscovered underground vaults in Spring 2027.
Londinium will bring the stories of early Roman London to life, with Journey’s scope covering visitor experience, exhibition design, media production and spatial storytelling. Drawing on more than a decade of archaeological research into the Bloomberg Collection, the experience explores the intimate stories of the people of Londinium.

Previously unseen objects from the unparalleled Bloomberg Collection of Roman artefacts will be brought to life through sensory storytelling, using dynamic projection and spatial soundscapes to transport visitors back to the turbulent first 50 years of Roman London: a place of trade, conflict and opportunity.

Grounded in archaeological evidence, the experience imagines the petty arguments, whispered gossip and business dealings of ordinary people in this frontier settlement, as it transformed from rural landscape into a thriving urban centre.
Journey has worked in close collaboration with audio experience designers DARKFIELD on the narrative, scripts and characters within the exhibition.
Londinium: the making of a Roman city will be the first exhibition to open within London Museum’s re-discovered 8000 sqft network of underground vaults, offering audiences a new way to encounter history beneath the city.

The project builds on Journey’s wider collaboration with London Museum. Alongside Londinium: the making of a Roman city, Journey is working with the museum on its Past Time galleries, which tell London’s story from the lives of the earliest prehistoric inhabitants, to transformative events including the Great Fire and the Blitz, and cultural milestones like the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The exhibitions will find a new home in Smithfield, marking a major new chapter for both the museum and London itself.
